“Well Good Evening, This is the part that I’ve been looking forward to for a very long time, cuz this is the part where I say to you Omaha Nebraska welcome to the very first night of the RED TOUR. So I’m gonna try to be cool about it, I’m gonna pretend like I’m not absolutely bouncing off the walls but this is the first time anyone will see the show. Look at all this, Look at you, you look good! And there are a lot of you. Thank you for hanging out tonight first of all. If I have seen you before, which I might have, because we really like playing in Omaha, it’s good to see you again, If I haven’t seen you before, It’s nice to meet you I’m Taylor. I write lots of songs about my feelings and I have a lot of feelings and so by you being here tonight, all 13,500 of you have opted in to hearing me sing songs about my feelings for the next two hours so thank you for that! Another thing about tonight, just to give you a heads up since this is the first place I’ve ever played, there’s going to be a lot of one particular color that you’re gonna see a lot. You’re gonna see it on microphones, fingernails and shoes :) and like on lights and stuff all kinds of stuff and you might wonder to yourself man that’s a lot of one color, what’s with the one color. And I will explain it to you now because the way that I see emotion, I kind of compare them to colors. For me Blue is sad, to me like yellow and gold is like comfort and warmth. There’s this one color that defines a lot of the emotions that I’ve been writing about lately, really great emotions like frustration, anger, jealousy, falling in love, falling out of love, heartbreak, all that good stuff. and you know I read about that stuff so much that I even named an entire album after it and I even went so far as to name an entire WORLD TOUR after it, because ladies and gentleman boys and girls colors that define the emotions that shape up and teach us things, I think there’s one color that represents the most important ones, and that color is RED”

“You know, picking the 1st place to open up your tour, there’s a lot of pressure on that decision and I’m the one who ends up making that decision so if ends up being like a “yeh” crowd, that’s on me but if it ends up being THIS! One thing I have noticed about you guys, so far is that I feel like in order to come up with these signs and these puns and these lyrical creations you come up with in the audience, I see them and I love them and it’s very creative, it’s very imaginative and it leads me to believe that we have a lot of daydreamers out there in the crowd tonight, is that true? I’m like that too, I have been since I was a little kid, I think when I was younger the most popular daydream in my imagination was what it would be like to grow up some day and get to play music for a living, to get to play music in a giant room like this. And um, another thing I use to daydream about was when I was in school I use to think how cool it would be to be a grown up because I had this daydream that when you grow up there are no more mean kids, like there are no more bullies, no more people who pick on you and how wonderful that would be if that were actually the case, but, it turns out, I went ahead and grew up a little bit and I realized that it has nothing to do with how old you are, whether you’re in school, no matter what your job is, no matter who you are, everybody’s got somebody picking on them and there’s always going to be someone that tells you you’re not good enough or makes you think you don’t deserve what you want. and when I realized that I just picked up my banjo and started singing and I started writing, someday I’ll be living in a big old city and all you’re ever gonna be is Mean.”

I think for me, I try to stick to writing about what I know, so my songs end up being about my actual life, and I think it’s the most amazing feeling when you actually say exactly what you felt, exactly the way that you felt it. But, I think, sometimes, things get really complicated when you’re losing someone or trying to forget somebody and sometimes you’re not feeling just one thing, you’re feeling so many things and it’s so complicated, it’s almost impossible to pin down the way that you feel and write about it. and so, when that happened to me, awhile ago when i was writing this song, I uh, i thought maybe if what I’m feeling is too complicated to write about, maybe I should just write about the story of what happened from beginning to end because I remember everything all too well.
